FACTORS TO CONSIDER WHEN GOING SOLAR

Every home, property, roof line, and budget is different when it comes to installing solar, so the costs associated are going to vary as well. Here are some of the most common factors to take into consideration:

Geographic location, proximity to the equator, climate, and house orientation – all impact how much energy your solar panels will produce. This ultimately determines the amount of offset. Generally, the closer you are to the equator and if the panels are installed on the south roofline of your home they will be more productive.

Utility bills continually rise, on average year-over-year. If you are looking to minimize the change in price and would like to have a significantly lower utility payment per month, solar can do that for you! If your current utility bill is high, then going solar might help you set more manageable and consistent payments.

The size of your house, specifically the square foot of roof space, will determine how many panels can be installed. How much you are willing to pay for a custom solar system will also change the number of panels installed, which will ultimately change the amount of utility bill offset.

There are different types of solar panels and purchasing options which range in price as well as aesthetics and efficiency. We specialize in installing monocrystalline panels, which are most often the best option for residential solar, and all of our homeowners own their panels outright.

Evaluate the changes and stay up to date about the government trade policy, as it can impact prices – whether it be foreign-manufactured panels or tariff rates.

HOW OUR SOLAR PANEL INSTALLATION PROCESS WORKS

Solar Station ensures each of our customers receives a speedy, high-quality installation. To do this, we have perfected our procedure from start to finish. As a premium solar provider, we make this simple for our customers and handle all of the details. Sit back, relax, and watch the solar panel installation process unfold!

A CUSTOM PROPOSAL

At your consultation or appointment, you will review and discuss the custom design and proposal our teams have put together for you and your home. At this point, we will ensure you are a good candidate for solar energy and answer any questions you may have. Our solar experts will also inquire about the following:

  • The electrical status of your home and site evaluation
  • Your roof type
  • Energy usage history
  • Credit score and annual income

INSTALLATION AGREEMENT

With the details all mapped out, our team will then send you the solar panel installation agreement.

HOME AND SITE EVALUATION

While our team continues to optimize your design and proposal, a site surveyor will come to your property and evaluate it for solar readiness. They will check for roof damage, meter capacity and adaptability, locate and document any potential problems or obstructions, and note any other factors influencing the solar array design and/or installation.

Once the evaluation is sent back to our team, our solar designers can begin creating your final design, which includes the most efficient solar array for your panels and an approved financing path.

PERMITTING AND HOAS

To have solar panels installed, there are required permits, whether through the city, county, or state. These can involve a large amount of legal jargon that can be confusing to navigate, so we decided to handle it. Solar Station has a team dedicated to getting all necessary permits submitted and approved for each homeowner.

This part of the solar process takes, on average, 4-6 weeks and is the longest.

INSTALLATION

All of our technicians are highly trained regarding solar panels and will ensure they are installed safely and correctly. On the day of your solar panel installation, we will begin by preparing your roof. We will then set up all the necessary wiring, which often goes into the home, so homeowners will need to be present on installation day. Next, we place and reinforce the racking, which is probably the stage where you will hear the most noise. The solar panels will be placed on the racking once we are certain it is secure. The last step is to connect the inverters to your panels. Our teams work very efficiently, and the majority of our installs are completed in 1-2 days.

The installation process time can vary from state to state or location to location, depending on building codes, permitting, and homeowner associations, but we work hard to make it easy.

Once the installation is complete, the crew will walk you through the installation, pointing out any details you may need to know and answering any questions you may have. Then, they will clean up all of their tools, equipment, and trash and will notify our team so your home can move to the next step in the process.

FAQS

The sun rises every day. That's why solar power is a completely renewable, reliable and clean energy source. It reduces our reliance on dirty sources of power such as oil, coal and natural gas, which produce harmful emissions affecting our health and environment.

Residetial solar energy systems represent an investment in the future of the planet, conserving non-renewable energy sources and protecting the environment.

In addition, solar panels and home batteries are becoming more affordable, accessible, resilient and efficient. They provide peace of mind and energy security for households when the power goes out or the next storm strikes. Unlike those from your utility, Solar Station customers pay predictable, affordable rates for 20 to 25 years. With home solar, you get to control your energy future.

A lot of things affect how well-suited your home is for solar, including where your home is, the angle of your roof, how much shade it gets throughout the day, and how old your home is.

Our solar advisors can help you determine if your home is a good fit for solar at the moment. They’ll run a custom analysis of your home with our proprietary solar design technology, and they’ll get a sense for your energy needs

Every household is different. When determining the number of solar panels your home needs, consider the following questions:

How much power do I need? Check your electric bills to see how many kilowatt hours (kWhs) you use throughout the year. We’ll go over this with you in detail during your free solar consultation to figure out just how much power your panels will need to produce.

What’s your climate like? The number of panels you need depends on how much sun reaches the ground where you are.

How much direct sun hits your roof? Shading, which direction your roof faces, and any aesthetic preferences you have can impact how big your system needs to be.

At Solar Station, we have proprietary solar design technology to help us create a custom system that maximizes energy production better and faster than if we did it by hand.

Over the last ten years, the cost of installing solar panels has decreased by over 40%1, fueling growth across new markets and deploying thousands of systems across the country. The upfront price for an average-sized residential solar system has fallen from $40,000 in 2010 to about $25,000 today. Meanwhile, utility-scale solar now costs between $16/MWh and $35/MWh, making it competitive with all other types of energy generation.

Net metering is a billing arrangement that allows you to receive credit on your utility bill for excess energy generated by your solar panels. This credit can be used to offset the cost of energy you use from the grid.

Yes, solar panels can generally increase the value of a home. Studies show that homes with solar panels tend to sell for a premium, often by a percentage of the home's value.

If your roof is in poor condition or nearing the end of its life, replacing it before solar panel installation is generally the most efficient and cost-effective approach, especially if you want to maximize the lifespan and benefits of your solar system. We offer roofing services to replace your roof at a competitive rate with the installation of your solar system

Solar panels typically last 25-30 years, although some may continue to produce power for even longer. Manufacturers often offer a warranty of 25 years, guaranteeing a certain level of performance during that time. While panels don't usually stop working completely after 25-30 years, their efficiency may gradually decrease over time

To estimate how much energy your solar system will generate, you need to consider the wattage of your solar panels, the number of panels you have, and the average sun hours per day in your location. A typical 400-watt panel can produce 1.5 to 2.4 kWh per day, but this can vary

Solar panel systems require minimal maintenance, mainly focused on keeping the panels clean and ensuring they are functioning correctly. This typically involves periodic cleaning to remove dirt, dust, and debris that can reduce efficiency, as well as annual inspections to check for any damage or issues.

Yes, weather significantly impacts solar panel performance. While sunlight is essential, high temperatures can reduce efficiency, and extreme weather can cause damage or reduce output. Solar panels are most efficient in direct sunlight and work, though less effectively, in cloudy or rainy conditions

No, a standard, grid-tied solar system will not work during a power outage, unless it has specific backup features. Grid-tied solar systems are designed to automatically shut off when the electrical grid goes down for safety reasons, protecting utility workers repairing the grid. To maintain power during an outage, you need to install a solar battery backup system or a generator, in addition to your solar panels

A recent bill passed by the House of Representatives proposes ending the residential solar tax credit on December 31, 2025, earlier than the current law's schedule.

This bill would also accelerate the phase-out of the commercial solar ITC, with reductions starting in 2029.

  • The proposed changes are NOT yet law. The bill still needs to be approved by the Senate and signed by the President.
  • For now, the 30% credit is still available for qualifying systems installed and placed in service in 2025.
